Hamish Goonetilleke of The Rum Diary Bar and Laura Rosadoni have joined forces to transform Majority Café, (corner of Kerr St and Brunswick St, Fitzroy) into a garden bar with a strong focus on Gin, tea and fun.
Paying homage to its Brunswick Street address, the fit-out combines the best of the quirky, unique and (most importantly) fun nature of the area, with classic English garden party style. Filled with custom painted vintage garden furniture, aromatic herb planter boxes and surrounded by a handmade white picket fence, the scene is instantly set for the ultimate garden party experience.
Garden goers will find delight amongst the drinks menu, featuring an outstanding collection of 60 local and international gins at launch, that will grow to over 200 before the year is out. If gin isn’t your cup of tea, there is a range of premium spirits, beer and cider on tap and a wine list chosen especially to enhance your garden party experience.
The growing popularity and availability of bespoke tonics featuring natural quinine and rare botanicals plays right into the hands of the exceptional bar team, headed up by Andy Griffiths (The Rum Diary) and Daniel Monk (Joe Taylor, The Toff in Town) who are excited to be creating some exceptional drinks. Befitting the quirkiness of the space, many of the cocktails on offer will be unique takes on old classics, such as the French 75, made with still wine, quince infused Green Tea gin and carbonated to order. They’ll also be working on a range of homemade tonics and infusions, featuring some of the most unique and interesting teas in the world.
And what garden party would be complete without the extravagance of a High Tea feast? In collaboration with Xavier Mercader (The Napier, The Rum Diary, O’Connell’s) G&Tea have devised a menu that will embrace the decadence of High Tea while showcasing some of Melbourne’s best produce.
Like any good High Tea, food will be served on one-of-a-kind cake stands, you’ll be able to choose from a range of savoury bites, such as pork and apple sausage rolls with ginger green tea marmalade, gin soaked cucumber, crème fraiche and mint sandwiches, and sweet treats such as lime, gin & coconut lamingtons or mini Spring Tonic Tea lemon curd tarts.
With summer well and truly in full swing, what better place to laze away those summer afternoons, than with a G&T in hand and good friends by your side.
The G&Tea Gin Garden will be open Monday to Sunday 1pm – 11pm
