Fisher and Paykel Social Kitchen

The Queen Victoria Market (one of my favourite places) has a new pop up cooking School – The Fisher & Paykel Social Kitchen and it’s all kinds of awesome.

As you can imagine, I’m VERY fussy when it comes to cookery master classes. I’ve been to many of them in my time, and some are better than others. SO, I am very excited to tell you about this one, as it was FABULOUS – and a MUST for any of you who like to cook.

It’s aptly named ‘Social Kitchen’ because it’s exactly that. Social. I went along on my own (but you could easily get a group of friends together) and had a ball. My class was hosted by Chef Paul Stafford from Spice Island, and it was a HOOT.

I was teamed up with 3 others at my impressive workstation and off we went, making the yummiest Paella I’ve had in a long time. As it turns out, I’ve never actually made Paella before, so it was great to learn how easy and fun it actually is to make. I have also never used an induction cook-top before, but have been keen to. I was a little skeptical (and honestly, I can’t quite wrap my head around the ‘magic’ of induction cooking)… but it was brilliant.

We sipped wine, chatted to one another and divvied up the tasks – it really was a ‘team effort’ to create this wonderful dish. Then, (the best part), we got to sit down at the table together and eat our Paella for lunch. YUM. Naturally, ours was the best in the room…humble? You bet! And I’m a little ashamed to say that I was nearly breaking into a sweat by the time I left from over-eating… it was just so yummy.

I’ve recreated this 3 times since for my family – who absolutely love it. Oh, and a little tip, I put the left over Paella inside a small red capsicums and baked them slowly. Another meal everyone loved!

The Martket Day classes run for around 2.5 hours, and you can book in for any of the class that takes your fancy. There are also the ‘Masterclasses’ that run for 4 hours, with TOP chefs (many of whom we feature on www.chefmasterclasses.com) – and it is extraordinary how many tips and tricks you’ll pick up. Not to mention the FUN you will have.

By the way, these classes are also fantastic to give as a gift for a foodie you love. Enjoy!
